Under 6 (U6)
The U6 program is designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of soccer while having FUN! The program is developmental, meaning the skills instruction and drills are designed for the physical, social, and cognitive level of the U6 player. U6 is for kids in Kindergarten or TK. (Players who qualified for TK because of their birthday, but chose to remain in preschool are also welcome.)
Players will be assigned to teams coached by parent volunteers. Most teams will meet on Saturdays during the fall and also each will have a single Sunday game against the Sunday team. There are no weekday practices for U6.
There are also programs run by the club open to registered recreational players interested in additional soccer throughout the year. Please view our “Additional Programs” located at the top drop down menu.
The first part of the practice will be activities from the PSC Curriculum (provided to coaches at the start of the season). These activities focus on FUN games, while teaching fundamentals. During the later part of the practice, the players will be divided into small groups and will play short, fun small sided games.
There will be no wins and losses and scores will not be recorded. The goal of the program is for all the kids to have a good time while learning soccer skills in a non-competitive environment. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate. For parents new to the game, but who wish to coach, Piedmont Soccer club offers training and coaching clinics. Enthusiasm and energy are the only requirements necessary to coach U6 soccer.
Each player will be provided with a Piedmont Soccer Club uniform, which includes a jersey, shorts and socks. Players should wear appropriate athletic shoes (cleats are not necessary) shin guards (underneath soccer socks – not over) and bring a size 3 soccer ball and a water bottle.
East Bay United Spring Soccer League
PSC registers several U6 Recreational Soccer Teams in the East Bay United Spring Soccer League. Games are held on Saturdays at Raimondi Park in Oakland (1800 Wood St.) starting in early April and ending in early June (no games Memorial Day weekend). It’s a turf field so games can be played even on rainy days. There are no weekday practices. Games are 4 vs 4, and 2 games are played simultaneously, so team rosters include 12 players. There is no additional cost for players who were registered last fall.
If you are interested in playing, please contact your fall soccer coach to put together a roster.
