1st-2nd Grade (U8)

The U8 program is one of the best ways to introduce a child to organized sports. Children participate in a league that emphasizes having FUN, while learning the fundamentals of soccer. Players also learn about good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Players are divided into rosters of around 15 players, with 1-2 Volunteer Coaches running one practice a week during Fall. Games take place on the weekend where teams are divided into two groups to play 4v4 or 5v5 games with small goals against other PSC U8 teams. Game scores and team standings are not kept. This allows the focus to remain on fun, participation and allowing players to be creative on the field.

Players really enjoy participating in this program. Over the course of the season, they develop new friendships as they form a cohesive team. It is a joy to watch each player’s confidence grow every week, as they develop better skills and teamwork.

  • Fall season: The Fall U8 season is 8 weeks long and lasts from early September (the first weekend after Labor Day) until the first weekend of November, including one game per weekend plus one practice per week
  • Spring season: The Spring U8 season lasts from mid-March through mid-May with 8 games. No official practices in Spring and we take a break in April for Spring break/Easter

All games for U8 will be at either Becker Playfield (Havens Elementary) or Hampton Field in Piedmont, and will rotate between 9am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  Some teams will play games only on Sundays, for religious reasons. Practices will be at fields in Piedmont, too.

Optional participation in the Spring season is included in your registration fees for the Fall season.  If you would like to register your Player, please visit here.

Players will be assigned to teams coached by parent volunteers.  If you would like to coach, please register here.

U8 Highlanders Program

In addition to the above, PSC has a competitive U8 Highlanders Program, which provides twice weekly practice sessions run by a Pro Coach, and Playdates against other clubs in the East Bay on the weekends. Tryouts for the competitive Highlanders program are in May and players are selected for teams then. This is separate from our Rec league and players cannot participate in both. For more information on our U8 Highlanders, please see our Competitive Program Overview page.
