1st-2nd Grade (U8)

The U8 program is one of the best ways to introduce a child to organized sports. Children participate in a league that emphasizes having FUN, while learning the fundamentals of soccer. Players also learn about good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Players are divided into rosters of around 12 players, with a Volunteer Coach running one practice a week during Fall (60 minutes), following the curriculum provided by 24-7 UK Soccer Academy. Games take place on the weekend and teams are divided into two groups of six to play 4v4 games against other PSC U8 teams. Game scores and team standings are not kept. This allows the focus to remain on fun, participation and allowing players to be creative on the field.

Players really enjoy participating in this program. Over the course of the season, they develop new friendships as they form a cohesive team. It is a joy to watch each player’s confidence grow every week, as they develop better skills and teamwork. Players are always disappointed when the season ends.

• Fall 2023 U8 season is 10 weeks long and lasts from early September 2023 to early November 2023, including one game per weekend plus one practice per week
• Spring 2024 U8 season lasts from March 16, 2023 through May 12, 2023 with 8 games. No practices in Spring and no games on Easter weekend (March 30-31)

All games for U8 will be at Becker Playfield at Havens Elementary School in Piedmont, and will rotate between 9am-2pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  Some teams will be play games on Sundays only, for religious reasons. Practices will be at fields in Piedmont, too.

Players will be assigned to teams coached by parent volunteers.

U8 Highlander Program

In addition to the above, PSC has a U8 Highlander Program, which provides twice weekly practice sessions run by a Pro Coach, and Playdates against other clubs in the East Bay on the weekends.
