Letter to all Rec Families from the PSC President
Dear PSC Rec Soccer Families,
The Piedmont Soccer Club (PSC) is excited to be commencing our Fall 2020 Recreational (“Rec”) Soccer program! Too bad the smokey air required cancellations due to poor air quality this week (http://www.piedmontsoccer.org/aqi/). When conditions again allow, we are excited to return to Hampton, Coaches, and Beach Fields and the Aurora School field. Big thanks to the City of Piedmont and the Piedmont Recreation Department (PRD) for their permit approvals and support for Piedmont Soccer!
As we also previously communicated to registered families, league play is unfortunately looking unlikely for this fall due to COVID-19 restrictions. So, instead, PSC created a new “Academy Plus” rec soccer offering where our Professional Coaches from 24-7 UK Soccer join rec team weekly sessions this fall.
We designed the Academy Plus program to have zero additional cost to rec soccer parents by reallocating dollars that would ordinarily go to the Jack London Youth Soccer League (JLYSL) for league play, referees, and fields. The 24-7 pro coaches have been trained in COVD-19 safety protocols and will share fun and engaging drills with the Rec teams that fit within the required safety rules. This support and knowledge will relieve the additional burden caused by COVID-19 from the volunteer parent coaches, and allow them to focus on keeping the players engaged and enjoying soccer again.
The 2020 Rec season is scheduled for 8 weeks from September 8 to November 1. While the loss of Daylight Savings Time makes weekday practices difficult in November, the PRD permits last through November and PSC will try to organize weekend make-up sessions for days cancelled due to weather conditions.
Finally, PSC will also keep you posted on when conditions allow for scrimmaging within teams and then potentially against other teams too. We are looking at all the ways we can keep your kids motivated and excited for soccer.
President, Piedmont Soccer Club
