Highlanders Start Strong in Summer Tournament Season
With the start of the fall season upon us, many of our Highlander teams took to the field at various local tournaments and a few have shared their success with us…
2010G Purple
Our 2010 Girls kicked off their fall season this past weekend by taking home the championship trophy in the Silver Division of the Walnut Creek Cup Summerfest, an annual early season tournament for many Piedmont teams.
The girls played two games on Saturday in 90+ degree heat, the first resulting in a comfortable win over Benecia, and the second, a hard-fought 2-1 loss to a strong Mustang team.
In order to earn a berth in the championship game, the team needed to win the morning game on Sunday. The girls rose to the challenge with a nice victory, with some girls scoring their first goals for the team. In the title game, the Highlanders won 3-0 in a re-match with the Mustang team they lost to the previous day.
2009B Purple
Our young boy’s team, travelled to San Ramon to play in their first competitive games of the season. The challenge for the boys was to set the baseline performance and give the team something to work on. After a sluggish start and going a goal down in a matter of minutes in game one, the team showed great determination and maturity by getting the ball on the floor and playing some excellent passing football, linking up to score three great team goals.
They went onto do the same in the next two games, scoring several more and playing some excellent team soccer. This led them to their first final, where they were undone by a single goal to lose 1-0. The boys were disappointed, but the coaches and parents could not be prouder of how hard they worked and Pro Coach, Dan Chubbock has stated his excitement for the season ahead, based on what he saw at the weekend.
2009G Purple
